Painted cossack ataman command base

After a long pause I was finally able to print some of my last sets - muscovite command and boyar sons, so now I started to slowly paint them.

Here is a servant cossack (or Don or rebel cossack) ataman with his retinue, observing the battlefield (or another village they are going to pillage).

You can get stl-files for these miniatures in my shop.

Stay tuned, more to come!

New release - Registered cossacks marching

I am happy to announce 1st regular set of Zaporozhian cossacks - Marching Registered Cossacks.

Set includes 6 figures of 15mm Zaporozhian cossacks in marching poses, armed with various types of snaphance flintlock muskets (some are held in leather and cloth cases), sabers and axes.

Figures are mostly based on amazing paintings made by Serhiy Shamenkov who made great research of cossack's dress and military organisation. All cossacks are dressed in typical Ukrainian peasants garments and boots, 2 of them also wear long cloaks, while 2 wear hungarian "menta" overcoat that was popular among Registered Cossacks at the beginning of the 17th century. 2 models are shown wearing fur hats in a strange manner (layed flat or worn upside-down) popular among Zaporozhians.

These models can represent Zaporozhian cossacks or Registered cossacks of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth as well as Ukrainian Hetman's infantry of late 16th- early 18th centuries.

You can buy STL for these miniatures in my store.

Stay tuned, more to come!

Free Promo-set: Come get it!

Pleased to announce free set that starts new army for Eastern Rennaissance.

So, next army that I'm working on is Zaporozhian Cossacks - famous frontier warriors from the Ukrainian steppes, who through their long history participated in conflicts with all major forces in 16-17th century Eastern Europe. Sometimes they fought as allies of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth or (later) Muscovite tsardom, while sometimes rebelled and fought for themselves.

First release is a small free promo set of 2x 15mm cossacks, mocking their enemies with insults and offensive gestures they were rather famous for. They did it to provoke enemies into loosing order and attacking cossacks (who often held fortified positions and waited for the charge). Also in this way cossacks strenthed their fighting spirit and demonstrated their will to fight.

These 2 figures are dressed in typical Ukrainian peasants dress and crude boots, are armed with a polish-hungarian saber, axe, and a snaphance musket. They can represent either independent Zaporozhian Sich cossacks or Registered Cossacks, who fought in campains of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and received payment from the Crown (in theory, while in reality they often received nothing and rebelled).

This set is released closely to the tragic date of February 24th and also is a small tribute to the stubborn heroic defence that Ukrainian people hold for 4 years day-to-day.

You can find stl files and download them for free in my store.

Stay tuned, more to come!

New release - Muscovite mounted command

Happy to announce new set - muscovite mounted command.

Set includes:

- Boyar from a proud and wealthy family, unarmored, on a decorated horse.

- General (Voivode) in expensive full set of eastern-style armor.

- Cossack leader (Ataman) in chainmail, who can also represent lesser boyar or voivode.

- Boyar son in padded armor and misyurka helmet, bearing noble boyar's personal standard (prapor). This model also has alternative version without banner cloth, so you can print ang glue any other banner you wish (or use this miniature as a bodyguard or a mounted boyar son with long spear).

Showcase - muscovite casualties markers

Painted a batch of test printed muscovite casualties. Quality of these test prints is uneven but when based and painted they look quite nice.

These are from the servant cossacks casualties set that you can find in my store.

Stay tuned, more to come!

Preview - Mounted standard-bearer

Finished 2nd model for the muscovite command set. It's a banner bearer, who holds so called "boyar prapor" - personal standard of a wealthy noble (not an army standard given by the tsar himself).

This young boyar son or boyar's servant (kholop) rides fine horse in a decorated barding, weas a suit of padded armor and a decorated misyurka helmet showing high status and wealth of the banner's owner. Also set will include a version of this miniature with an empty banner-pole so you can print and glue any banner you want.

Stay tuned, more to come!

Showcase - more servant cossacks

Made 2 bases of muscovite servant cossacks. Because of large amount of misyurka helmets and chainmail on leader they look more like "private" cossacks of muscovite Stroganov merchant family who conquered Urals and Syberia for the tsar.

These are mostly snaphance armed cossacks printed from stls that you can buy in my store. Stay tuned, more to come!

From servant tartars to boyar sons

Interesting detail - servant tartars slowly merged with other feudal cavalry starting from the end of 16th century. For example, many tartars changed their religion to orthodox christian, and became usual muscovites of tartar origin - former servant tartars were registered as boyar sons. Many of the muscovite and later imperial russian noble families had their roots in tartar families that decided to serve tsar and changed their religion.

As tartars were good at archery, many of them continued to actively use bows as primary weapon till the end of the 17th century, when other boyar sons absolutely forgot how to use it.

Here I took a short break to paint and base some of my test prints: tartars and boyar sons.

Who are Servant Tartars

Let's have a short break and discuss - who were Servant Tartars and what role they played in muscovite armies.

In 16th century muscovite tsardom conquered territories of Kazan, Astrakhan and some Siberian Khanates with quite a large number of tartar population, living there. Local nobility was quickly integrated into the system of muscovite nobility - they could serve in tsar's military campaigns in the way similar to boyar sons. Later some other categories of tartar folk were allowed to serve - they received land, money and some other social bonuses.

Servant tartars were light cavalry fighting in traditional tartar style - with bow, saber and lasso. Only wealthiest tartar nobles had some form of protection like misiurka helmet or body armor.

My miniature set depicts them in the most common way - totally unarmored and thus well suited to represent any other tartar cavalry from Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Siberia or Crimea.

Showcase - muscovite garrison force

This is my small muscovite garrison force for the beginning of the 17th century.

I planned to use it for Irregular Wars ruleset by Nic Wright, but also think of it as a starting step for a larger project.

All miniatures are my 3d-models, printed by my friends and painted by me. Some are test prints (or sometimes even misprints).

Stay tuned, more to come!

New release - Unarmored boyar sons with pistols

Year 2025 is closing and I'm happy enough to close it with a new release - this time it's muscovite boyar sons with pistols!

Pistols were first introduced in muscovite tsardom in 1590s but were extremely rare. However in 1630-50s quite a lot of boyar sons were armed with only 1 pistol and no other ranged weapons!

Here you get 3 unarmored feudal cavalrymen 15mm figures fighting in close quarters with pistols and sabers only.
You can buy stl files in my store

And wish you all a Happy New Year! Stay tuned, more to come!

New release - Unarmored boyar sons with carbines

Here you get 3x 15mm muscovite feudal cavalrymen with carbines and no armor (although one is wearing eastern style "shishak" helmet with custom-made chainmail neck protection).

In fact this is how most of boyar sons looked like in 17th century (many of them also had a pistol, not shown here). Carbine was a cheap, quite effective weapon, and required much less training than bow to become a skilled shooter.
As usual you can buy stl files in my store. And don't forget about 10% winter sale discount!

Stay tuned, more to come!

Christmas 2025 Special - Orthodox monks artillery

Time for Christmas presents!

I've made a special Christmas set that you can download for free - 2x Orthodox monks artillery crew with "tyufiak" cannon. These old cannons made at the end of the 15th or beginning of 16th centuries were still effectively used to defend monasteries from rebels, invaders or tsar's forces. They fired stones or iron grapeshot and were deadly at close range.

This set is quite versatile as you can use these miniatures to represent monastery defence from 15th to 18th centuries.

You can download stl files here. Stay tuned - more to come!
